Wrinkle treatments in Australia: how to prepare for a consultation

CNAesthetic Academy · Updated October 2026

What to know before a wrinkle treatment consultation in Australia — your rights, the questions to ask, and how to keep an accurate record of your treatment history.

How consultations work in Australia

Some cosmetic treatments for lines and wrinkles involve prescription-only medicines. In Australia these require a consultation with a qualified prescriber, who decides whether treatment is appropriate. Clinics are not permitted to advertise prescription-only medicines to the public, which is why you may notice general wording rather than product names.

Before you go

  • List any medicines, supplements and health conditions
  • Note any previous cosmetic treatments, with dates if you have them
  • Write down what you would like to discuss, and anything you want to keep as it is
  • Bring previous records or photos you have kept

Questions worth asking

  • Are you, and the person treating me, registered with AHPRA?
  • What alternatives are there, including no treatment?
  • What are the risks and side effects, and what should I do if one occurs?
  • How will you record what was used, so I can have a copy?
  • What is the full cost, including reviews?

Your right to time

You are entitled to think it over. A good practitioner will never pressure you or offer a discount for deciding on the day.

Your own history

Many people can't remember exactly what they had, when, or where. Keeping your own record makes future consultations easier and safer conversations.

An important note

This guide is general information only. It is not medical advice and does not replace a consultation with a qualified, registered health practitioner, who will assess whether any treatment is appropriate for you. Every person is different and no particular result can be promised. You can take time to decide, ask for written information, and say no at any point.
