Choosing a practitioner
How to check a cosmetic practitioner in Australia
CNAesthetic Academy · Updated October 2026
Simple steps to check a cosmetic nurse, doctor or clinic in Australia before a consultation — AHPRA registration, questions to ask and warning signs.
Check registration
Doctors, nurses and other registered health practitioners appear on the public register at ahpra.gov.au. Search their name to confirm their registration and any conditions.
Good signs
- A full consultation before any treatment is booked
- Clear written information about risks, costs and aftercare
- Time to think it over, with no pressure
- A clear plan for follow-up and after-hours concerns
Signs to pause
- Pressure to decide today, or time-limited discounts
- Promises of a particular result
- No mention of risks, or no consultation
- Reluctance to tell you what was used
Bring your history
Whichever practitioner you choose, an accurate history of previous treatments helps them understand you. Aesthetic Passport keeps that history in your hands.
An important note
This guide is general information only. It is not medical advice and does not replace a consultation with a qualified, registered health practitioner, who will assess whether any treatment is appropriate for you. Every person is different and no particular result can be promised. You can take time to decide, ask for written information, and say no at any point.
